Turkey Visa for South African Passport Holders Living in Dubai

The rule in one line: your South African passport qualifies you for the Turkey e-Visa on its own. This is the opposite of the conditional route that applies to several South Asian nationalities, and it is worth understanding the difference so you do not over-prepare.

Some nationalities — Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Filipino among them — can only use the Turkey e-Visa if they already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit. South African passport holders are not in that group. You do not need any third-country visa, and you do not need to prove UAE residence for eligibility. You apply online, by nationality, and receive a one-month single-entry e-Visa.

The e-Visa needs very little. You will not upload a stack of paperwork — the online form checks your passport details and takes a card payment.

Carry a printed copy of the e-Visa with your passport, along with your valid UAE residence visa (needed to leave and re-enter Dubai), a return flight booking, and proof of accommodation. Turkish immigration rarely asks for all of it, but it keeps entry smooth.

• Over-preparing. South Africans do not need a Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa to use the Turkey e-Visa — that condition applies to other nationalities, not to you.
• Booking the wrong product for the trip. The online e-Visa is one-month single entry. If you plan to leave and re-enter Turkey or stay longer, use the three-month multiple-entry visa from a Turkish mission instead.
• Entering a name that does not match the passport exactly. Even one wrong character can cause problems at immigration — copy every detail from the passport data page.
• Travelling on an expired UAE residence visa. It is not part of e-Visa eligibility, but you need it to depart from and return to Dubai.
• Using an unofficial website. Only evisa.gov.tr is the government portal; copycat sites charge several times the real fee.
