Turkey eVisa Policy Changes for UAE Residents: What You Need to Know

The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revised its electronic visa (eVisa) eligibility criteria as of 1 March 2026. The update primarily affects third-country nationals residing in the UAE who previously used the eVisa portal (evisa.gov.tr) for their Turkey travel authorization.

The core change is that Turkey now requires applicants from certain nationalities to hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit in addition to a valid UAE residence visa when applying for the eVisa. Previously, a valid UAE residence visa alone was sufficient for eVisa eligibility for these nationalities.

The revised requirements primarily impact passport holders from the following countries who reside in the UAE. If you hold a passport from one of these countries and previously relied solely on your UAE residence visa for Turkey eVisa eligibility, you are affected by this change.

If you are an Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, or Nigerian passport holder in the UAE without a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa, you now have two options for visiting Turkey:

1. 1<strong>Option 1: Apply for a Turkey sticker visa</strong> — Visit the Turkish Consulate in Dubai (Jumeirah area) or apply through the Turkish visa application centre. Processing takes 7–10 working days. You will need a completed application form, passport photos, UAE residence visa copy, bank statements, flight reservation, and hotel booking.
2. 2<strong>Option 2: Obtain an eligible visa first</strong> — If you are planning to visit Europe or the UK in the near future, obtaining a Schengen or UK visa will also restore your Turkey eVisa eligibility. This may be practical if you have multi-destination travel plans.

For those who already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit, the eVisa application process remains unchanged. You can continue to apply at evisa.gov.tr with your UAE residence visa and supporting visa/RP details.

If you are a UAE resident who regularly visits Turkey for holidays or business, this change means you should plan further ahead. The sticker visa process requires an in-person visit and takes 7–10 working days compared to the near-instant eVisa. During peak travel periods (summer, Eid holidays), appointment availability at the Turkish Consulate can be limited.
