Turkey eVisa Policy Changes for UAE Residents: What You Need to Know
Turkey has updated its eVisa eligibility criteria effective March 2026. Several nationalities including Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Filipino passport holders now need a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit to use the Turkey eVisa — a UAE residence visa alone does not qualify. Nigerian passport holders have no eVisa option and use the sticker route.
Overview of the Changes
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revised its electronic visa (eVisa) eligibility criteria as of 1 March 2026. The update primarily affects third-country nationals residing in the UAE who previously used the eVisa portal (evisa.gov.tr) for their Turkey travel authorization.
The core change is that Turkey now requires applicants from certain nationalities to hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit to use the eVisa. It is that qualifying third-country document — not a UAE residence visa — that determines eVisa eligibility. Previously these nationalities could use the eVisa more readily; a UAE residence visa on its own has never been a Turkish eVisa qualifier and is not sufficient now.
Who Is Affected
The revised requirements primarily impact passport holders from the following countries who reside in the UAE. If you hold a passport from one of these countries and previously relied solely on your UAE residence visa for Turkey eVisa eligibility, you are affected by this change.
eVisa Eligibility — Before and After March 2026
| Nationality | Previous Route | eVisa Requirement (from March 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Indian | eVisa with fewer conditions | eVisa only with a valid Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa or RP; else sticker visa |
| Pakistani | eVisa with fewer conditions | eVisa only with a valid Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa or RP; else sticker visa |
| Bangladeshi | eVisa with fewer conditions | eVisa only with a valid Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa or RP; else sticker visa |
| Filipino | eVisa with fewer conditions | eVisa only with a valid Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa or RP; else sticker visa |
| Nigerian | Sticker / consular only | No eVisa pathway — sticker visa via VFS Global / the Türkiye Consulate Dubai |

A UAE residence visa does not qualify any of these nationalities for the Turkey eVisa — the qualifying document is a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit. Nigerian passport holders have no eVisa option at all. This table reflects the most common nationalities among UAE residents.
Important Clarification
- You qualify for the eVisa only if your Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit is still valid (by date) when you enter Türkiye — a previously used but still-valid single-entry visa is accepted; an expired one is not.
- A UAE residence visa does not qualify you for the Turkey eVisa — it is needed only to depart from and return to Dubai.
- If you do NOT hold a valid qualifying document, you must apply for a Turkey sticker visa via VFS Global / the Turkish Consulate in Dubai.
- Filipino passport holders ARE affected — they now need a qualifying Schengen/US/UK/Ireland visa or RP too. Nigerian passport holders have no eVisa option and always use the sticker route.
What to Do If You Are Affected
If you are an Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Filipino passport holder in the UAE without a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit, you have two options for visiting Turkey (Nigerian passport holders have only the sticker option, as there is no eVisa pathway for them):
- 1Option 1: Apply for a Turkey sticker visa — Visit the Turkish Consulate in Dubai (Jumeirah area) or apply through the Turkish visa application centre. Processing takes 7–10 working days. You will need a completed application form, passport photos, UAE residence visa copy, bank statements, flight reservation, and hotel booking.
- 2Option 2: Obtain an eligible visa first — If you are planning to visit Europe or the UK in the near future, obtaining a Schengen or UK visa will also restore your Turkey eVisa eligibility. This may be practical if you have multi-destination travel plans.
For those who already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit, the eVisa application remains straightforward. You can continue to apply at evisa.gov.tr; the qualifying visa or residence permit is what unlocks the eVisa, and you should carry your UAE residence visa for departure from Dubai.

Impact on Travel Plans
If you are a UAE resident who regularly visits Turkey for holidays or business, this change means you should plan further ahead. The sticker visa process requires an in-person visit and takes 7–10 working days compared to the near-instant eVisa. During peak travel periods (summer, Eid holidays), appointment availability at the Turkish Consulate can be limited.
We recommend checking your eligibility on the official eVisa portal before booking flights. If you discover you are no longer eligible for the eVisa, start the sticker visa process at least 3 weeks before your intended travel date.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I still get a Turkey eVisa with my UAE residence visa?
A UAE residence visa on its own does not qualify you for the Turkey eVisa. Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Filipino passport holders need a valid Schengen, US, UK or Ireland visa or residence permit to use the eVisa; without one, they apply for a sticker visa. Nigerian passport holders have no eVisa option at all and always use the sticker route. Carry your UAE residence visa for departure from Dubai, but it is not what makes you eVisa-eligible.
What if my Schengen visa has expired?
An expired Schengen visa does not qualify. The official rule (evisa.gov.tr) is that your supporting visa or residence permit must still be valid by date at the time you enter Türkiye. A previously used single-entry Schengen visa is accepted only if its validity date still covers your entry date; once it has expired, you must apply for a Turkey sticker visa instead.
How long does the Turkey sticker visa take from Dubai?
The Turkey sticker visa typically takes 7–10 working days to process when applied through the Turkish Consulate or application centre in Dubai. During peak seasons, this may extend to 2 weeks.
Is the Turkey eVisa fee the same as the sticker visa fee?
The government fee is approximately the same (around USD 50 for single entry). However, the sticker visa has additional service centre charges. The eVisa is processed online with no service centre fees.
