Malaysia Visa Requirements from Dubai: Documents Needed

Malaysia's three entry routes — visa-free, eNTRI, and eVisa — each have different document requirements. Understanding which route applies to you is the essential first step.

The remainder of this guide focuses primarily on the eVisa document requirements, as these are the most detailed and the most likely to cause confusion or rejection if not prepared correctly. eNTRI requirements are covered separately below, and visa-free travellers from Dubai need only ensure their passport is valid.

Regardless of which entry route applies to you, your passport must meet Malaysia's minimum standards. These apply to all travellers, including visa-free nationalities.

• Minimum validity: your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Malaysia. If your passport expires within 6 months of your planned return date, renew it before applying.
• Blank pages: your passport must have at least 2 consecutive blank pages for immigration stamps. Malaysian immigration will stamp both arrival and departure pages.
• No significant damage: passports with water damage, torn pages, or unclear biographical data pages may be rejected at immigration. If in doubt, travel on a new passport.
• Passport scan quality: for eVisa and eNTRI applications, the uploaded scan of your biographical data page must be clear, complete, in colour, and fully legible. Blurry or partially cut-off scans are a leading cause of application rejections.
• Name consistency: your passport name must exactly match the name on your flight booking, hotel reservation, and all other documents. Any mismatch — including abbreviated names, middle name inclusion or exclusion — can cause issues at check-in and immigration.

The Malaysia eVisa requires a set of documents to be uploaded digitally through the official portal at evisa.imi.gov.my. All documents must be clear digital scans or photographs. Original physical documents are not submitted for the eVisa — everything goes through the online portal.

• Passport details — full name, passport number, passport nationality, and passport expiry date. These are entered manually on the registration form rather than uploaded as a scan.
