US Introduces $750 Fast-Track B1/B2 Visa Interview Option — Pilot from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026, the US State Department is piloting an optional $750 premium that lets B1/B2 (business and tourism) visa applicants at selected posts secure an interview appointment within ten business days — on top of the standard $185 application fee. OraVisa explains what it means for UAE residents and whether Abu Dhabi or Dubai are included.

What Has Changed

The US State Department has created a new $750 fee for an expedited B1/B2 — business and tourism — visa interview appointment. Announced in a temporary final rule published in the Federal Register on 9 June 2026, the option lets applicants who pay it secure an interview at selected posts within ten business days. It is a purely optional premium on top of the standard non-immigrant visa application (MRV) fee, which remains $185 for B1/B2 applicants — roughly $935 in total for the premium route. The service is offered only at a limited number of embassies and consulates, published on travel.state.gov, and in limited quantities. The pilot runs from 1 July 2026 through 31 December 2026, and the State Department has linked it to demand around the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the US co-hosts, and preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

How the Paid Expedited Appointment Works

The expedited appointment process, step by step

  1. Complete the DS-160 and pay the standard application fee

Submit a completed DS-160 application through the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC) and pay the standard B1/B2 application (MRV) fee — this is required whether or not you use the expedite option.

  2. Book a standard appointment first

At posts offering the service, you first schedule a traditional (non-expedited) appointment in the normal way.

  3. Opt into an expedited appointment

If you want an earlier slot, indicate this; you will then see the expedited appointments available within the next ten business days.

  4. Pay the expedite fee within the hold window

Choosing an expedited slot places a short 5–10 minute hold while you pay the expedite fee. If you do not complete payment in that window, the hold is released and the slot is reopened to other applicants.

  5. Attend your interview as normal

The paid option only brings the appointment forward. The interview itself, the documents required, and the visa decision are unchanged — paying does not improve your chance of approval.

    Federal Register Rule 2026-11513

Because each consular section makes only a limited number of expedited appointments available based on its capacity, the State Department is explicit that there is no guarantee an expedited slot will be available to every applicant who wants one. The paid route replaces the older approach of requesting an emergency or priority appointment with written justification — here, eligible applicants can simply pay to move forward, subject to availability.

What This Means for UAE Residents

The essentials for UAE residents

  • Between 1 July and 31 December 2026, B1/B2 applicants at selected US posts can pay $750 to secure an interview within ten business days.
  • It is on top of the standard $185 B1/B2 application fee — about $935 in total — and is entirely optional.
  • Paying speeds up the appointment only; it does not change the documents, the interview, or your likelihood of approval.
  • The list of participating embassies and consulates is set by the State Department and published on travel.state.gov — as of 11 June 2026 it is not yet confirmed whether Abu Dhabi or Dubai are included.
  • Expedited slots are limited and not guaranteed to be available to everyone who wants one.

US visitor-visa demand from the UAE is high, and interview wait times at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai have at times stretched to many months. A paid fast-track option could therefore be genuinely useful to UAE residents planning travel for the 2026 World Cup or other trips — but only if the UAE posts are among those selected, which the State Department had not confirmed as of 11 June 2026. Where it is offered, the option is open to applicants of any nationality applying at that post: it is tied to where you apply, not to your passport. Because slots are limited, it is best treated as a possible convenience rather than a guaranteed shortcut.

What You Should Do Now

  1. 1Check travel.state.gov and your local US mission’s website to see whether your post — for UAE residents, the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate General in Dubai — is offering the paid expedited appointment during the pilot.
  2. 2Decide early: the pilot runs only from 1 July to 31 December 2026, and the number of expedited slots is limited.
  3. 3Complete your DS-160 and pay the standard application fee first — the expedite option is selected afterward, when booking your appointment.
  4. 4Have a payment card ready so you can pay the expedite fee quickly; you get only a 5–10 minute hold on the slot before it is released.
  5. 5Prepare your interview documents thoroughly whichever appointment you choose — a faster appointment does not change what the consular officer assesses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the $750 US visa expedite fee mandatory?

No. It is entirely optional. The standard B1/B2 application process and the normal, non-paid appointment route continue unchanged. The $750 only buys an earlier interview slot — within ten business days — at the limited posts offering the service during the 1 July to 31 December 2026 pilot.

Does the fast-track option apply at the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi or the Consulate in Dubai?

As of 11 June 2026, the State Department had not published the full list of participating posts. The Bureau of Consular Affairs decides which embassies and consulates offer the service, and the list is posted on travel.state.gov. UAE residents should check travel.state.gov and the US mission’s own website before relying on it.

What is the total cost if I use the expedited option?

You pay the standard B1/B2 application (MRV) fee of $185, which still applies, plus the $750 expedite fee — about $935 in total. The MRV fee is not expected to change during the pilot.

Does paying $750 improve my chances of getting the visa?

No. The fee only brings your interview appointment forward. The documents you need, the interview itself, and the consular officer’s decision are exactly the same as for a standard appointment. It is a scheduling convenience, not an approval advantage.

What happens if I select an expedited slot but do not pay in time?

When you choose an expedited appointment, the system places a short 5–10 minute hold while you pay the $750 fee. If you do not complete payment within that window, the hold is released and the slot is reopened to other applicants.

How long will the fast-track option be available?

It is a pilot running from 1 July 2026 through 31 December 2026. The State Department has linked it to demand around the 2026 FIFA World Cup and preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Expedited appointments are limited in number and not guaranteed to be available to everyone.
