UAE Expands Visa-on-Arrival to Nationals of Six Countries Living Abroad

A passport and a boarding pass rest on a dark marble immigration counter in a modern airport terminal, with arched windows and gate signage softly blurred behind — illustrating the UAE’s expanded visa-on-arrival facility for nationals of six countries who reside abroad, announced on 25 June 2026.

The UAE has expanded its visa-on-arrival programme to nationals of six countries — Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa — who hold a valid residence permit from one of nine designated countries. Eligible travellers on ordinary passports, with their accompanying family members, can obtain a 14-day or 60-day visa on arrival. OraVisa explains who qualifies and what it means for UAE residents.

What Has Changed

Key takeaway

  • The UAE has expanded its visa-on-arrival programme to nationals of six countries: Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa (ordinary passports), plus their accompanying family members.
  • Eligibility requires holding a valid residence permit issued by the United States, an EU member state, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada.
  • Two options: a 14-day visa on arrival for AED 100 (extendable once, by 14 days, for AED 250), or a non-extendable 60-day visa for AED 250.
  • An overstay fine of AED 50 per day applies after the visa expires, and holders must depart once it ends.
  • The change was announced on 25 June 2026 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP).

On 25 June 2026, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country had expanded its visa-on-arrival programme to nationals of six more countries who reside outside their home countries. Under the decision, holders of ordinary passports from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa — together with their accompanying family members — can be issued a visa on arrival, provided they hold a valid residence permit from a designated country. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) said the move broadens the scope of beneficiaries and aligns the UAE’s visa framework with global best practice.

The two visa-on-arrival options

Short stay

Length of stay
14 days
Fee on arrival
AED 100
Extension
Extendable once, by 14 days, for AED 250

Long stay

Length of stay
60 days
Fee on arrival
AED 250
Extension
Not extendable; issued for a single stay

These are UAE government visa fees set by the immigration authorities, not service charges. The visa on arrival is issued at the UAE port of entry after standard immigration checks. Once either visa expires, the holder must leave the country; an overstay fine of AED 50 per day applies to anyone who remains beyond the permitted period.

Who Is Eligible

Who can use the expanded UAE visa-on-arrival

Affected

  • Nationals of Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya or South Africa, holding ordinary passports, who also hold a valid residence permit issued by the United States, an EU member state, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada — for example, a US Green Card or a UK or EU residence permit.
  • The accompanying family members of those eligible travellers.

Not affected

  • Nationals of the six countries who do not hold one of the qualifying residence permits — they must still arrange a UAE entry visa in the normal way before travelling.
  • Nationals of countries outside the six listed — this specific expansion does not change their entry route to the UAE.

Conditional

  • All eligible travellers — the visa on arrival is granted at the UAE port of entry, subject to immigration checks. The qualifying residence permit must be valid at the time of entry and should be carried with the passport.

The qualifying residence permit is the key condition: the scheme is designed for nationals of these six countries who already live in one of the nine designated countries and want to visit the UAE without arranging an entry visa in advance. Travellers should present their passport and the valid residence permit at the UAE port of entry, where immigration officers issue the visa on arrival.

What This Means for UAE Residents

The UAE is home to large communities from several of these countries — Filipinos in particular are among the Emirates’ biggest expatriate groups. For UAE residents, the most practical effect is on visiting relatives and friends: a family member who is a national of one of the six countries and who lives in the US, the UK, the EU, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada can now travel to the UAE on a visa on arrival, rather than applying for an entry visa first.

It is worth being clear about who this does not cover. The facility depends on holding a qualifying residence permit, so a national of one of the six countries who lives in their home country, or anywhere outside the nine designated countries, is not covered and would still need a UAE visit visa. In those cases, a sponsor in the UAE can arrange a standard visit visa on the traveller’s behalf.

What You Should Do Now

  1. 1Confirm the traveller is a national of one of the six countries — Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya or South Africa — on an ordinary passport.
  2. 2Check that they hold a valid residence permit from the United States, an EU member state, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, valid at the time of entry.
  3. 3Choose the right option before travelling — a 14-day stay (AED 100, extendable once for AED 250) or a 60-day stay (AED 250, non-extendable).
  4. 4Carry the passport and the qualifying residence permit together, as both must be presented at the UAE port of entry.
  5. 5If the traveller does not qualify, arrange a standard UAE visit visa in advance. OraVisa can sponsor and process UAE visit visas, extensions and status changes from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which nationalities can now get a UAE visa on arrival under the June 2026 expansion?

Holders of ordinary passports from Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and South Africa, along with their accompanying family members, provided they hold a valid residence permit from a designated country.

What residence permit do I need to qualify?

A valid residence permit issued by the United States, an EU member state, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand or Canada — for example, a US Green Card or a UK or EU residence permit. It must be valid at the time of entry.

How much does the UAE visa on arrival cost?

A 14-day visa costs AED 100 and can be extended once, by a further 14 days, for AED 250. A 60-day visa costs AED 250 and cannot be extended. These are UAE government visa fees.

Can the visa be extended?

The 14-day visa can be extended once, by another 14 days, while the holder is in the UAE. The 60-day visa is issued for a single stay and is not extendable. After expiry, the holder must depart.

What happens if I overstay the visa?

An overstay fine of AED 50 per day applies to anyone who remains in the UAE beyond the permitted period, so it is important to depart before the visa expires or to extend the 14-day visa where eligible.

I am a UAE resident — does this change my visa?

No. If you already live in the UAE on a residence visa, your status is unchanged. The expansion is an additional entry route for eligible nationals of the six countries arriving from abroad — useful, for example, when eligible relatives want to visit you in the UAE.

What if a traveller does not hold a qualifying residence permit?

They are not covered by this visa-on-arrival expansion and must arrange a UAE entry visa in the normal way. A sponsor in the UAE can apply for a standard UAE visit visa on their behalf, and OraVisa can handle the process.
