Saudi Arabia Announces 2026–27 Umrah Season Calendar (1448 AH) — Key Dates for UAE Residents

Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has opened the 1448 AH Umrah season: visa issuance and pilgrim arrivals began on 31 May 2026, with entry to Makkah and Nusuk permits from 1 June 2026. The final visa-issuance date is 9 March 2027 and pilgrims must depart by 7 April 2027. OraVisa explains what this means for UAE residents.

What Saudi Arabia Has Announced

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced the official Umrah season calendar for 1448 AH. The issuance of Umrah visas and the arrival of pilgrims to the Kingdom began on Sunday, 31 May 2026 (14 Dhul Hijjah 1447). From Monday, 1 June 2026, pilgrims are able to enter Makkah and obtain their Umrah permits digitally through the Nusuk application. The Ministry has emphasised that Umrah companies and overseas agents must adhere to the approved schedule and comply with all official regulations to ensure a smoothly organised season.

The Full Season Timeline: Key Dates

1448 AH Umrah season — official key dates

  1. Umrah visa issuance and pilgrim arrivals begin

14 Dhul Hijjah 1447. The Kingdom begins issuing Umrah visas and receiving pilgrims for the new season.

  2. Entry to Makkah and Nusuk permits begin

Pilgrims can enter Makkah and obtain their Umrah permits digitally through the Nusuk application.

  3. Final date to issue 1448 AH Umrah visas

1 Shawwal 1448. No further Umrah visas are issued for this season after this date.

  4. Final date for pilgrims to enter Saudi Arabia

15 Shawwal 1448. The last day on which Umrah pilgrims may enter the Kingdom for this season.

  5. Final departure date for Umrah pilgrims

30 Shawwal 1448. All Umrah pilgrims for the 1448 AH season must have departed by this date.

The season runs for roughly ten months. UAE residents planning a trip later in the period should note the two hard cut-offs in particular: 9 March 2027 is the last day an Umrah visa can be issued, and 7 April 2027 is the final departure date. Building a comfortable margin before each deadline avoids any risk of a visa being unavailable late in the season or of overstaying the season window.

Who Needs What: Visa Rules by Status

Umrah entry by traveller status

Affected

  • GCC residents who are expatriates — including UAE residents holding a residence visa — require a visa to perform Umrah. They can apply through the Saudi eVisa portal or via the Nusuk platform.
  • Travellers must hold a passport valid for at least six months with at least two blank pages, and an official MenACWY (meningitis) vaccination certificate.

Not affected

  • GCC citizens — nationals of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar — do not need a visa to enter Saudi Arabia for Umrah.

Conditional

  • Holders of a Saudi tourist e-visa visiting outside the Hajj season may perform Umrah, but must first obtain an Umrah permit through the Nusuk application.
  • Expatriate GCC residents should ensure their UAE (or other GCC) residence has sufficient remaining validity at the time of application — typically three months or more.

For the 1448 AH season the Nusuk application is mandatory: it is the channel for issuing Umrah permits and for booking Rawdah appointments at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. Every Umrah visa must be linked to a verified Nusuk hotel booking in Makkah, Madinah, or both, and ground transport for airport transfers and inter-city travel should be arranged in advance. In practice this means UAE residents should confirm their accommodation before applying for the visa, not after.

What This Means for UAE Residents

The essentials for UAE residents

  • The 1448 AH Umrah season is open now — visas have been issued since 31 May 2026 and Nusuk permits since 1 June 2026.
  • GCC citizens travel visa-free; UAE-resident expatriates need an Umrah visa via the Saudi eVisa portal or Nusuk.
  • The Nusuk application is mandatory for Umrah permits and Rawdah appointments, with a verified hotel booking required.
  • Plan around the two hard deadlines: 9 March 2027 (last visa issuance) and 7 April 2027 (final departure).

The UAE is home to large communities — Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Egyptian and many others — for whom Umrah is a regular journey. For these residents the practical sequence is what matters most: secure a Nusuk-linked hotel booking and transport first, then apply for the Umrah visa through the Nusuk platform or the Saudi eVisa portal. Before applying, check that your passport has at least six months’ validity and two blank pages, that your UAE residence has enough remaining validity, and that you hold a valid MenACWY meningitis vaccination certificate from an official health authority.

The official 1448 AH calendar announcement set out the season’s entry, issuance and departure dates, but did not specify a fixed per-visa validity or maximum-stay period. UAE residents should confirm the current validity terms at the time of application directly through the Nusuk platform or official Saudi channels, and should always plan their return so as to depart on or before the season’s final departure date of 7 April 2027. As with any Saudi visa, remaining beyond the permitted period can carry penalties, including fines, detention and deportation, so adhering to the season window is essential.

What You Should Do Now

  1. 1Confirm your status. GCC citizens do not need a visa; UAE-resident expatriates do, and apply through the Saudi eVisa portal or the Nusuk platform.
  2. 2Check your documents early — a passport valid for at least six months with two blank pages, a UAE residence with sufficient remaining validity (typically three months or more), and a valid MenACWY meningitis vaccination certificate.
  3. 3Book a Nusuk-linked hotel in Makkah, Madinah, or both, and arrange your ground transport in advance, before submitting your visa application.
  4. 4Apply for your Umrah visa via Nusuk or the Saudi eVisa portal, then issue your Umrah permit in the Nusuk application before you travel.
  5. 5Plan your trip within the season window — apply well before the 9 March 2027 final issuance date and ensure you depart on or before 7 April 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does the 2026 Umrah season open for UAE residents?

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah opened the 1448 AH Umrah season with Umrah visa issuance and pilgrim arrivals beginning on 31 May 2026. From 1 June 2026, pilgrims can enter Makkah and obtain their Umrah permits digitally through the Nusuk application. UAE residents can apply for an Umrah visa now, provided they meet the document and Nusuk booking requirements.

What are the key deadlines for the 1448 AH Umrah season?

There are three deadlines to plan around. The final date to issue an Umrah visa for the season is 9 March 2027 (1 Shawwal 1448). The final date for pilgrims to enter Saudi Arabia is 23 March 2027 (15 Shawwal 1448). And the final departure date for all Umrah pilgrims is 7 April 2027 (30 Shawwal 1448). UAE residents travelling late in the season should leave a comfortable margin before each cut-off.

Do UAE residents need a visa for Umrah, or just GCC citizens?

GCC citizens — nationals of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar — do not need a visa to enter Saudi Arabia for Umrah. UAE-resident expatriates, however, do need a visa, which they can obtain through the Saudi eVisa portal or the Nusuk platform. The residence visa used to apply should generally have at least three months’ remaining validity at the time of application.

Is the Nusuk app mandatory for Umrah in 2026?

Yes. For the 1448 AH season the Nusuk application is mandatory: it is the channel through which Umrah permits are issued and Rawdah appointments at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah are booked. Every Umrah visa must be linked to a verified Nusuk hotel booking in Makkah, Madinah, or both, and ground transport should be arranged in advance.

What documents do UAE residents need for an Umrah visa?

UAE residents typically need a passport valid for at least six months with at least two blank pages, proof of UAE (or other GCC) residence with sufficient remaining validity, a valid MenACWY meningitis vaccination certificate issued by an official health authority, confirmed round-trip travel covering the Umrah dates, and a Nusuk-linked hotel booking with pre-arranged transport. Always confirm the current requirement list on the Nusuk platform before applying.

Can I perform Umrah on a Saudi tourist e-visa from the UAE?

Yes. Travellers visiting Saudi Arabia on a tourist e-visa outside the Hajj season may perform Umrah, but they must first obtain an Umrah permit through the Nusuk application before going to Makkah. The Nusuk permit step is required regardless of the visa type used to enter the Kingdom.

How long is the Umrah visa valid?

The official 1448 AH calendar announcement set out the season’s entry, issuance and departure dates, but did not specify a fixed per-visa validity period or maximum stay. Because validity terms can change between seasons, UAE residents should confirm the current validity and permitted-stay rules directly on the Nusuk platform or through official Saudi channels at the time of application, and plan to depart on or before the season’s final departure date of 7 April 2027.

What happens if I overstay the Umrah season window?

All Umrah pilgrims for the 1448 AH season must depart on or before 7 April 2027. As with any Saudi visa, remaining beyond the permitted period can carry penalties, which may include fines, detention and deportation. To avoid any risk, UAE residents should plan their return travel within the season window and well before the final departure date.
