VFS Global is a private company headquartered in Mumbai, India, that provides visa application processing services on behalf of embassies and consulates around the world. It is important to understand that VFS Global does not make visa decisions. The company acts purely as an administrative intermediary, handling document collection, biometric capture, application forwarding, and passport return logistics.

When you submit your visa application at a VFS Global centre, the staff verify that you have all required documents according to the embassy's checklist, capture your photograph and fingerprints (biometrics), and forward your complete application package to the relevant embassy or consulate. The embassy then reviews your application, makes the visa decision, and returns your passport to VFS Global for collection or courier delivery to your address.

This outsourcing arrangement benefits both applicants and embassies. Applicants get more convenient locations, longer operating hours, and additional services such as premium lounges and SMS tracking. Embassies benefit from reduced administrative workload, allowing their consular officers to focus on the actual visa adjudication rather than logistics.

The main hub is in the Oud Metha area near Wafi City Mall, which handles applications for the majority of countries. All VFS Global appointments in Dubai must be booked online through the VFS Global website. Walk-in submissions are not accepted. The booking process varies slightly depending on the destination country, but the general steps are consistent. Here is the standard appointment booking process.

For Schengen visa applications, biometrics captured through the Visa Information System (VIS) are valid for 59 months (approximately five years). If you have provided Schengen biometrics within the last 59 months, you may not need to visit VFS in person and could be eligible for a postal or courier submission. However, this depends on the specific consulate's policies — some still require in-person attendance for every application.

UK visa biometrics are captured separately and are valid for different periods depending on the visa type. For standard visitor visas, biometrics from a previous application may be reusable. Canadian and Australian visa biometrics have their own validity periods. Always check the specific country requirements when booking your appointment to understand whether biometrics are needed.

VFS Global offers several optional premium services that can make the application process more comfortable and sometimes faster.
