Myanmar Visa Requirements & Fees from Dubai

Myanmar charges a flat e-Visa fee regardless of your nationality — unlike Laos, where the fee varies by passport. This simplifies budgeting for Dubai residents. The fee is paid online during the application and is non-refundable once submitted.

The Myanmar e-Visa requires a small set of documents, all submitted digitally during the online application. The key to a smooth application is ensuring each document meets the exact specifications — blurry scans, incorrect photo sizes, or passport detail mismatches are the primary causes of application delays.

1. 1Valid passport — must have at least 6 months of validity from your planned entry date into Myanmar. Your passport must have at least 2 blank pages for the visa stamp and entry/exit stamps. Upload a clear colour scan of the bio-data page.
2. 2Digital passport photograph — recent (within 6 months), colour, white background, full face visible, no glasses, no head covering (unless religious), JPEG format, under 2 MB. Minimum resolution 400 x 600 pixels.
3. 3Passport bio-data page scan — clear colour scan or high-quality photograph of the main page containing your photo and personal details. Must be fully legible with no shadows, glare, or cropping. JPEG or PDF format, under 2 MB.
4. 4Credit or debit card — Visa, MasterCard, or JCB to pay the USD 50 fee online.

Notably, the Myanmar e-Visa does not require bank statements, proof of employment, travel insurance, or pre-booked hotel reservations as part of the application. You only need to provide the name and address of your accommodation in Myanmar on the application form — a booking confirmation is not uploaded. However, OraVisa recommends having your accommodation booked before applying, as immigration officers at Yangon or Mandalay airport may ask to see it on arrival.

While the e-Visa application itself requires only 4 items, you should carry additional supporting documents when you actually travel to Myanmar. Immigration officers at the airport may request these during the entry process.

• Printed e-Visa approval letter — the most critical document. Myanmar immigration may not accept a digital copy on your phone. Always carry a printed copy.
• Original passport — with at least 6 months validity and 2 blank pages. Ensure the passport matches the one used in your e-Visa application.
• Return or onward flight ticket — proof that you will leave Myanmar within 28 days.
• Hotel booking confirmation — for at least your first few nights in Myanmar, showing the hotel name, address, and booking dates.
• Travel insurance policy — not mandatory for entry but strongly recommended. Medical facilities in Myanmar can be limited outside Yangon.
• USD cash in crisp, undamaged bills — Myanmar's economy still relies heavily on USD cash. Bring clean notes printed after 2006 for the best exchange rates.

Based on OraVisa's experience assisting Dubai residents with Myanmar travel, the following mistakes are the most frequently encountered in e-Visa applications. All are easily avoidable with proper preparation.

• Uploading a blurry or low-resolution passport scan — the bio-data page must be clearly legible. Use a scanner rather than a phone camera if possible.
• Using a photograph with a coloured background — the Myanmar e-Visa portal strictly requires a white background. Photographs with grey, blue, or other backgrounds are rejected.
• Entering passport details incorrectly — your name, passport number, and date of birth must match your passport exactly. Even a transposed digit in the passport number will cause rejection.
• Applying too late — while processing takes 3 business days, delays during peak season or Myanmar public holidays can extend this. Apply at least 10 days before departure.
• Using unofficial websites — search "Myanmar e-Visa" and you will find numerous third-party sites charging double or triple the USD 50 government fee. The only official portal is evisa.moip.gov.mm.
• Assuming the e-Visa works at land borders — the Myanmar tourist e-Visa is only valid at three international airports. Land border crossings require a different visa type from a Myanmar embassy.
• Not printing the approval letter — digital copies on your phone may not be accepted at Myanmar immigration. Always print the approval letter.
